The issue at the Tavantolgoi coal loading logistics center to be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Agency
Published: 2025-07-20 | Translated from: gogo.mn
Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar today visited the branch mine of "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC and gave instructions to retrieve every contract made with the company, and to thoroughly review their fulfillment, execution, and the responsibility of all parties involved. If violations or illegal activities are identified, he ordered that conclusions be forwarded to the relevant legal authorities for investigation.
Furthermore, the issue that has arisen at the Tavantolgoi coal loading logistics center—which planned to load 10 million tons of coal this year, but has so far only managed to load 145,000 tons—will be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Agency. Some of the equipment at the center, which was put into operation only in 2024, has broken down, making it impossible to transport and load the planned coal volumes. Therefore, three representatives from the anti-corruption agency are to be appointed to investigate, via legal channels, those who were responsible for making contracts and overseeing this work.
Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar stated that the "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" mine belongs to the people and should not be a site for corruption and manipulation. He noted that working onsite has revealed clear, inefficient, unfair, and undisciplined practices, and therefore, he has tasked the company to reduce expenses by 50% and to suspend the projects and programs that have not yet started implementation.
He also instructed the relevant ministers to resolve the obstacles at the coal export, acquisition centers, and enrichment factories, and increase exports. Coordination lapses between ministries and sectors have resulted in significant inefficiencies and wasted expenditures. For instance, building the enrichment plant 12 km away from the mine has led to substantial losses and extra costs. Therefore, he gave a three-month deadline for a transition to efficient and well-governed operations and established a special plenipotentiary representative council composed of sector representatives.
It is expected that this will remove obstacles to coal exports and increase exports without bureaucratic delays. The Prime Minister emphasized that, to increase exports by 50% in the short term, everyone must act as a single, unified team in both action and intent.
In relation to the situation at "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC, the government on the 7th of this month imposed a special regime on the company for three months by government decree and appointed a Plenipotentiary Representative Council. The head of this team, Deputy Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat U. Byambasuren, presented their planned activities to improve extraction, sales, and transportation during this special regime. It is estimated that the implemented measures will increase revenue and sales by 23% each, and exports by 13%.
"Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC owns 68,000 hectares of land and holds eight special mining licenses. As of today, they have extracted 165 million tons of coal from an area of 1,500 hectares, which is less than 2% of the total geological reserves. The eastern mine is estimated to have reserves for 43 years, and the western mine for 53 years.
Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar gave the following instructions to the government’s special plenipotentiary representative team at "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC:
- For the sale of mining products through the exchange, particularly for coal trading, present concrete, thoroughly researched proposals for resolving the current complications within 14 days.
- Take measures to anticipate and mitigate market risks, create opportunities to deliver products directly to end-users, build a warehouse in China, improve transport and logistics conditions, particularly by enhancing the operations and management of the “Gashuunsukhait Auto Road” company for compliant roadway conditions.
- Optimize coal transportation, increase rail transportation to reduce costs, increase coal sales through the Khangi-Mandal border crossing, and work jointly with relevant parties to address and solve any arising issues.
- Cut unnecessary and avoidable expenses, reduce operating costs and increase efficiency by up to 30%, prioritize investment projects, and implement cost-saving measures in ongoing projects.
- Streamline and optimize the company’s structure, conduct job position attestation to create a lean and capable organization, and prepare well-reasoned, data-supported proposals for improving governance by the 10th of next month. Ordinary engineers and technical staff who perform their jobs sincerely should not be affected by these changes.
- Review the current state of production technology, stop the controversial selective mining practices that have been criticized for years, and start implementing policies to introduce international best-in-class, green, safe, cost-effective, and intelligent technology. To reduce mining costs, prepare and implement a detailed plan to start underground mining.
- To increase the company’s value and added value, and to create value in the private sector, expedite the preparatory work for establishing the "Coal-Chemical Industrial Complex", one of the government’s 14 mega projects.
He tasked the team to implement these orders and ensure results.

There will also be horse races featuring adult, stallion, and 3-year-old horses, a national archery tournament, a youth provincial wrestling championship, a wrestling title announcer competition, and a wrestling commentator contest.

The Uyalgyn River lies 30 kilometers east of the center of Tsagaan-Uur soum. From this region originated not only the three great champions D. Damdin, Kh. Tseveenravdan, and Ch. Selenge: The Shagai Game is a World Cultural Heritage
Published: 2025-07-20 | Translated from: montsame.mn
One of the national games beloved by Mongolians is the shagai game, played using livestock ankle bones. Mongolians have continuously developed this tradition, elevating the shagai game into a national sport. For instance, shagai shooting was officially registered as part of Mongolia’s National Naadam Festival beginning in 2001.
Furthermore, since shagai shooting is regarded as a unique cultural heritage with deep roots in Mongolian tradition, it was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014. As a result, this game has become a part of the world’s cultural heritage. As one of Mongolia's ancient games, the shagai game is not only a category in the national festival but has developed as a national sport and an essential educational tool for children, instilling them with important values and skills.
For example, the projectile used in shagai shooting was originally crafted from the ankle bones of livestock or gazelles. During the game, the bone is placed on a wooden base called a "hashlaga," and players attempt to hit targets, called "khasaa," from a distance of nine arm spans, which is approximately 4.72 meters. Many types of games can be played with shagai. Notably, these include "spotted turtle" arrangement, "four lucky," horse racing, guessing shagai, making oaths, the "twelve years" shagai game, "nine yellows," bugtsug flicking, shagai tossing, and forming various figures.
Playing these shagai-based games teaches young children many valuable qualities such as loving livestock, respecting parents and elders, caring for siblings, and valuing friendship. Furthermore, it greatly supports the upbringing and development of a child’s physique and muscle tissues. Especially for younger children, it helps develop their counting skills, sharpens their vision, strengthens hand muscles, and encourages teamwork, patience, sorting and observation skills, as well as quick-wittedness—proving itself to be an exceptional educational tool.

Central: The Ruins of Saridag Monastery
Published: 2025-07-20 | Translated from: montsame.mn
Located in Erdene soum of Tuv aimag, on the slope of Artsat Saridag mountain, is the ruin site of the Ribogeja Lingandan Shadublin, also referred to as the Monastery of Complete Bliss, Increasing Merit, and Teachings. This ruin was placed under provincial protection by Resolution 233 of the Government of Mongolia in 1994 (Appendix 3), by Resolution 175 in 2008, and it was brought under state protection in 2020 by Resolution 13.
As for the monastery, it was established in 1654 on the slopes of Saridag Mountain, part of the minor ranges of Khentii, in what is now Erdene soum, Tuv aimag, at the border region of Tusheet Khan aimag, Darhan Chin Van's khoshuu. Located among the three mountains: Buh Yan, Songino Yan, and Yan Saridag Chandmalsan, the monastery was established by Zanabazar, the First Bogd Gegeen of Khalkha, as the center of Yellow Buddhism. The construction of the monastery was officially completed in 1680, but it could not serve long as the religious center of Mongolia. In 1687, it suffered from the turmoil between Khalkha and Oirat. When Galdan Boshigt invaded into central Khalkha lands, advancing as far as the Kherlen river and Khentii mountains, he destroyed the monastery established by Zanabazar.
There are oral accounts that a small temple was erected on the site of the ruins and religious ceremonies continued until the early 20th century.
